Medical herbalists have a training which is very similar to orthodox doctors and they use the same diagnostic tests as conventional medicine. However, they also take a very detailed medical and dietary history so they have an in-depth picture of their patient’s past and present health, diet and lifestyle. They then use plant based herbal remedies which support the body’s own healing processes to bring their patients back to good health.
When prescribed by a fully qualified Medical Herbalist, herbal medicines can be used safely alongside conventional drugs and can complement orthodox drug treatment. Professional herbalists have detailed knowledge about the interactions between conventional drugs and herbs.

The herbal consultation
The first consultation lasts for one hour. A thorough medical history is taken. Your blood pressure will be checked and, if necessary, an examination carried out. Ellie will take a detailed medical history so she has a clear picture of your overall health – past and present.
Ellie’s approach is to treat the whole person, the underlying causes of ill health as well as the symptoms. I will ask detailed questions about your diet and for some information about your lifestyle.
At the end of the consultation, I usually select between four and seven different herbal tinctures and combine them in one bottle so you have a medicine individually created for your specific needs which is to be taken two or three times daily. I use organic tinctures wherever possible. Sometimes herbal teas, creams etc. Detailed dietary advice and other appropriate recommendations will also be made.
Subsequent visits review the progress of your treatment, monitor and support your dietary and lifestyle changes, and make appropriate adjustments to your herbal prescription. They usually last half an hour.
Ellie works in Enfield EN2, Islington N1, and Harpenden, AL5 treating patients with Western Herbal Medicine or Nutrition.
If you would like to talk to Ellie about your condition or any of the services she offers feel free to telephone or email for a no obligation chat about how she may be able to help and what might be the best treatment for your condition.
